You Were Loved First

There is something in us that constantly wants to earn love.

We work harder. We try to be better. We become who we think others need us to be. Even in our relationship with God, it's easy to fall into the trap of believing that if we pray more, serve more, or finally overcome our struggles, then He will love us more.

But the gospel tells a different story.

The Father's love has never been a reward for good behavior. It has always been a gift.

Long before you took your first breath, God knew you. Before you made your first mistake, He loved you. Before you ever searched for Him, He was already pursuing your heart.

John 3:16 reminds us that God's love was demonstrated first. He didn't wait for humanity to deserve salvation. He gave His Son while we were still separated from Him because love moves first.

Maybe you've been carrying the weight of trying to prove yourself. Maybe you've believed that your failures have somehow made God love you less. Or perhaps you've spent so much time trying to earn acceptance from others that you've unknowingly approached your heavenly Father the same way.

Today, let yourself rest.

You don't have to perform for God's affection.

You don't have to clean yourself up before coming into His presence.

You don't have to pretend you're stronger than you are.

You are already fully known, fully seen, and fully loved.

That doesn't mean God leaves us where we are. His love transforms us. But transformation is the result of being loved, not the requirement for receiving it.

When you truly understand that you are loved first, everything begins to change. Obedience becomes a response instead of an obligation. Prayer becomes a conversation instead of a checklist. Worship becomes gratitude instead of striving.

So if you've been exhausted trying to earn what has already been freely given, lay that burden down today.

Come to the Father just as you are.

His arms have always been open.
