The Power of a Mother's Prayer

Yesterday, my daughter and her boyfriend were in a serious car accident.

When I saw the pictures of the van, my heart sank. The damage tells a story that words cannot fully capture. The guardrail struck the front bumper, then somehow skipped the driver's seat entirely before tearing through the side of the van.

Looking at it, I can't explain it.

I can only worship.

The day before, I had sent her a text message with what felt like a simple prayer: "Father, I pray for protection for Blanca and Elijah as they travel this weekend. Send angels to go before them and protect them on the road. Father that everything run smoothly in the vehicle that they travel in. Bless their coming and their going. Bless their conversations. Guard their minds and hearts from any attack. The plans of the enemy are cancelled in the name of Yeshua. May You be glorified in their lives Yahweh. Amen.🙏🏻"

At the time, it felt like one of many prayers a mother prays.

But there is nothing simple about the work of God. Sometimes we pray for protection expecting that it means nothing difficult will happen. Yet God's protection doesn't always look like the absence of danger. Sometimes it looks like His hand guiding us through the middle of it.

Metal can be replaced.

Vehicles can be repaired.

Lives cannot.

As I stared at the wreckage, I couldn't help but picture the angels of God standing between my daughter and that guardrail. The damage should have been catastrophic, but somehow they were spared. Somehow, what could have been a tragedy became another testimony.

Prayer is not a lucky charm.

It is an invitation for heaven to move.

As mothers, we often wonder if our prayers matter. We whisper them while washing dishes, driving to work, lying awake at night, or sending our children out the door. They may seem ordinary to us, but they rise before an extraordinary God who never grows tired of listening.

Yesterday reminded me that every prayer matters.

Every blessing spoken over out children matters.

Every declaration of God's promises matters.

Every request for angelic protection matters.

I don't know how many dangers our children are protected from that we'll never know about this side of eternity. But yesterday, God allowed us to see a glimpse of His faithfulness.

The enemy had a plan.

God had the final word.

Today my heart is filled, not with fear, but with gratitude. Gratitude for a faithful Father who watches over His children. Gratitude that He hears even the quiet prayers of a mother. Gratitude that His mercy is greater than our greatest fears.

If you're a mother reading this today, don't stop praying.

Even when it feels routine.

Even when your children are grown.

Even when they are miles away.

Your prayers are never wasted.

The God who commands angels, who calms storms, and who holds every life in His hands still listens when a mother whispers, "Father, protect my child."

And yesterday, He answered mine.

"The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and He delivers them." - Psalm 34:7
