My Road to Revival: How God Led Me Home

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." — Proverbs 3:5-6
What do you envision when you think about the perfect road trip?
For me, it looks like my husband behind the wheel, a spacious and clean car, delicious snacks, my favorite songs on repeat, sunny weather, and no traffic. I imagine holding hands with the love of my life while he tells me how much he adores me.
But every road trip comes with unexpected detours. No matter how carefully we plan, there are always bumps in the road.
Looking back, that's exactly how I would describe my journey with God.
My road to revival wasn't a straight path. Some parts were smooth, while others felt like I was stranded on the side of the road wondering where God was leading me. Yet every time I felt lost, He faithfully guided me back on track.
I grew up in a Christian home. Church was familiar, but it wasn't the center of my life until adulthood. Even then, God always had a way of keeping me close enough to hear His voice, even when I didn't fully understand where He was leading me.
After my husband and I got married, we decided to commit to one church together. Then circumstances changed, and we found ourselves without a church home. At first, I wasn't worried. There were countless churches in our city. Surely we would find another one quickly.
For nearly a year and a half, my husband, son, and I visited church after church. We gave each one a fair chance, 4-6 week "trial period". Many had incredible worship, friendly people, and biblical preaching. On paper, they checked every box.
But something was missing.
Every time we left a church, my husband would ask, "Babe, the message was good. The people were nice. What is it?"
And every time my answer was the same.
"I don't know. I'm just not feeling it."
I couldn't explain it. I didn't even know what I was searching for. I just knew I hadn't found it yet.
Then everything changed.
One night, the Lord gave me a dream. In the dream, I felt strongly that I needed to attend a Wednesday night church service. The next day, I posted on Facebook asking friends and family for church recommendations.
Three different people suggested Family Revival Church.
I remember thinking, If that's not a sign from God, I don't know what is.
So I went.
That Wednesday night changed everything.
A guest speaker was ministering that evening, and she announced she would be sharing her testimony. To be honest, my first thought was, Great... another testimony.
But this wasn't just a story about her life.
She preached about the power of God. She spoke about healing, deliverance, restoration, and the goodness of God with an authority that pierced straight through my heart.
As she spoke, something inside of me came alive.
For the first time in a long time, I felt spiritually awake. It felt like a fire had been reignited in my spirit.
I remember thinking, Could this be the place?
After service, Pastor Mario introduced himself and asked if Family Revival Church would be my home church. I laughed and told him I needed to talk to my husband first. Now, if you ask Pastor about that story today, he’ll probably tell you I said, “I need to talk to my man.”
When I shared my experience with my husband, I could tell he was hesitant. By then, he was tired of visiting church after church. But he agreed to come that Sunday.
And he loved it.
From the moment we walked through the doors, something felt different. It wasn't just the preaching or the worship. It was the atmosphere.
The love felt genuine.
The people felt sincere.
One thing that stood out immediately was how Pastor Mario greeted people personally before service and stood at the door afterward to dismiss everyone individually. It wasn't forced or performative. It was caring and intentional.
Slowly, the walls around my heart began to come down.
My husband quickly started serving as an usher. I was more reserved. I kept my guard up.
Then one day during worship, I felt the Lord speak clearly to my heart:
"It's time to let your guard down."
I had a choice to make. I could continue protecting myself, or I could trust God and obey.
I chose obedience.
Soon after, God led me to the intercessory team. Through that ministry, I built genuine friendships and deeper spiritual connections. What began as obedience eventually became family.
Family Revival Church became more than a place we attended. It became home.
No church is perfect. Anything involving people never will be. But what makes the difference is when imperfect people come together to serve a perfect God.
This church stood beside my family through grief, financial struggles, job loss, marital challenges, and seasons when life felt overwhelming. It became a lifeline.
I have never seen pastors care for people the way our pastors do. They prayed with us, checked on us, counseled us, and fought for our family spiritually. God used this church to strengthen my marriage, restore my spirit, and carry me through difficult seasons.
When I look back now, I realize revival didn't happen overnight. It was a journey marked by uncertainty, searching, surrender, and obedience.
And the beautiful thing is that every one of us has a road to revival.
Your story may not look like mine, but God is faithful to guide those who seek Him. My prayer is that you would invite Him into every area of your life and allow Him to direct your steps.
Because when God orders your path, even the roads you never would have chosen can lead you exactly where He wants you to be.
Sometimes, those roads lead straight to revival.
